Triathlons are my New sport and I LOVE IT

Recent last few years  as I havent done much since I was 16/17yrs, on and off injuries, going out with Friends started. Operations on injuries- compartment syndrome front of the shin had small operation to release the pressure on the fascia.

Oct 2007.  Did the great north run.  ( I was in the elite ladies race, against Kara Goucher and Paula Radcliffe, Im sure u Americans will recall that race).

I was just in on my previous times from the Bath Half Marathon. I ran it as best as I could off my training & circumstances...

Decided to do my 1st Marathon with London looming in the following April I was in the ladies Elite race again.  So the training was on.  I realise now I didnt give my body enough time to recover as it did break down in the last 5 weeks of my training. Injury bound, with calf and hamstring problems I raced!

London Marathon, April 08 (Injury calf issues) 1st marathon  3hrs.12mins .30 secs

Dublin Marathon  Oct 08  3hrs.01mins.13  undulating and 1 toilet stuck/stop (LOL)

Bath Half 2007    1.26.35 hrs

Wilmslow half marathon english champs    1.25.39

18th lady  (With piriformis injury ).

Liverpool 10k 2008 Oct 37.42mins midst marathon training

Wirral 5k 2009 17.41mins off the back off marathon week

Track 3000ms 10.45mins  hmmm I ran this to get points for my club so I just did tactical and ran on 1st lady shoulder and sprinted at the end !

As a youngster

County Champion for Xcountry and

High Jump

and 1500ms track.

pbs aged 13 yrs old

800ms 2mins 16secs

1500ms 4mins 48 secs

high jump 1metre 53  (cant do this now) and I never trained for it as a kid, just competed alot for points for my club, usually spend 2 hours highjumping, and skip off to do an 800 or 1500ms race then go back to high jump, Wish I took the running more seriously!

Run on more than several occasions for my County against Ireland county of Dublin.

Top 50 finnisher at 14yrs of age in english nationals Xcountry.

okay went the gym, but had to go on my motorbike, (need for some adrenaline)

20 mins on xtrainer for a really good warm up stretch

then treadmill, OMG I hate treadmills, but needs must.

did 5 min jog warm up, not sure mile pace as in km/H  then stopped stretched again.

did 5 mins at a good pace, and worked upto do the last 5 mins at 16km/h which I know is 6 min mile pace then warmed down for 2 mins.

xtrainer for 5 mins really easy warm down.

So What a day I have had, work is pretty calm now, it was so busy in the last 3 weeks and Ive been working 1-2 hours over each day, so been tired mentally and physically, I love my job but it can wear you down.  We had a directors meeting today, so family gathering as its a a family firm, stress or what, and physio  said stress seems to tense me up that much and I run all tense and end up with calves like balls! this is why I warmed up for so long on the xtrainer.  Also not well been drs this morning, been put on 200mg antibiotics twice a day, so thats gonna effect me in a day or so.

So its no happy bunny today, but I can rise above it all and be a quiet bunny or

maybe a funny bunny, gotta laugh at what life throws at you, well I can try anyway

Why the antiobiotics?

A belated welcome to the blog.

My thoughts are that if you could run 2:16 800 at age 13, that speed should still be somewhere deep down. If you could unearth it, you'd be able to run at least 2:40 in the marathon, possibly even a low-2:30.

I get excited when I see somebody with speed. Endurance is trainable, patience is all you need to develop it. Speed is different. If you do not have it and you've never had it you can only go that far. Work on endurance all you want, you will only learn to run slow for a longer time, but you will never run fast.

The way I would approach the whole deal. Goal number one - learn to run without being injured. Attack on several fronts. Training - run mild. Do not do speed until you learn to run without injury. Diet - eat a lot, eat healthy food. The two go together. When you have a habit of eating healthy you can safely eat to satiation. Sleep - must sleep, do what it takes. If you do not sleep, run slower and/or less. Training volume and intensity are earned by sleep. If you spend more than you earn you get injuries and overtraining.

Once you have good health, and hopefully a good aerobic base to go along, the first step to unearthing the speed is to find out what speed you actually have. Race 400, 800 and a 1500 to see what is going on.

Hey Sarah, Dont think I am injured, just niggles, and if I trained hard it would be an injury then!

Burt, Water infection, might have gone to kidney's, waiting on blood test! dont think it has though, I dont feel all bad really, but its been going on a week or so...

Sasha, thankyou for your comments it is greatly appreciated, and yes your right, I think I had overdone it this time, too much training too quickly, and not enough good food...

Sleeping well its more related to stress at work and being a total stress head about everything, I cant sleep when I dont train, I know it can be related as I sleep like a log when training is going well, but it has always been a problem. Hoping to do a 1500m race this summer and maybe some 3000ms, I am not sure on racing 400 or 800, I know I did a 400ms one year, at aged 14yrs, I took the season out to do 400ms to improve for the 800ms, my best that year was i think 43secs, off the top of my head!

but again thankyou :-)

Good that work is calming down, hope you are feeling better soon.

As all my faster/tempo work is on the treadmill you get pretty good at converting them!

From sam on Fri, Apr 24, 2009 at 04:23:26 from 78.32.130.9

Hey Chris, my treadmill at home is fantastic, its mph, so its really easy converting, but I am no good with km/h.

I found it wasnt hurting on the treadmill, so I might do some work on my own at home, its better than the ones in the gym would you believe, but my gym needs updating, its LA Fitness, and for such a big firm you would think theyd update the exercise machines!

From ChrisM on Fri, Apr 24, 2009 at 04:30:40 from 130.88.123.4

I like to pretend that when I'm on a treadmill in km/h that it's really mile/h, I recently ran a 10k in under 25 minutes!!
