Triathlons are my New sport and I LOVE IT

Recent last few years  as I havent done much since I was 16/17yrs, on and off injuries, going out with Friends started. Operations on injuries- compartment syndrome front of the shin had small operation to release the pressure on the fascia.

Oct 2007.  Did the great north run.  ( I was in the elite ladies race, against Kara Goucher and Paula Radcliffe, Im sure u Americans will recall that race).

I was just in on my previous times from the Bath Half Marathon. I ran it as best as I could off my training & circumstances...

Decided to do my 1st Marathon with London looming in the following April I was in the ladies Elite race again.  So the training was on.  I realise now I didnt give my body enough time to recover as it did break down in the last 5 weeks of my training. Injury bound, with calf and hamstring problems I raced!

London Marathon, April 08 (Injury calf issues) 1st marathon  3hrs.12mins .30 secs

Dublin Marathon  Oct 08  3hrs.01mins.13  undulating and 1 toilet stuck/stop (LOL)

Bath Half 2007    1.26.35 hrs

Wilmslow half marathon english champs    1.25.39

18th lady  (With piriformis injury ).

Liverpool 10k 2008 Oct 37.42mins midst marathon training

Wirral 5k 2009 17.41mins off the back off marathon week

Track 3000ms 10.45mins  hmmm I ran this to get points for my club so I just did tactical and ran on 1st lady shoulder and sprinted at the end !

As a youngster

County Champion for Xcountry and

High Jump

and 1500ms track.

pbs aged 13 yrs old

800ms 2mins 16secs

1500ms 4mins 48 secs

high jump 1metre 53  (cant do this now) and I never trained for it as a kid, just competed alot for points for my club, usually spend 2 hours highjumping, and skip off to do an 800 or 1500ms race then go back to high jump, Wish I took the running more seriously!

Run on more than several occasions for my County against Ireland county of Dublin.

Top 50 finnisher at 14yrs of age in english nationals Xcountry.

Had a good sleep, went to bed early and didnt have to get up till 8am :-)

My 1st work day off so now i am down to 3 days working with 2 full days of resting and training.

Gym 25 mins xtrainer level 6 and 7

5.5 miles run 7.30pace, so easy and felt good, even though its 9am in the morning its pretty warm 20 degrees at least.

step ups, 5 mins with left (weak leg) leading then 5 mins high intensity step ups 10 each leg then swop.

xtrainer level 3 20 mins.

Swim for 20 mins, crawl, no stopping then 2 mins rest, and 1.5 lengths underwater and 1.5 lengths fast.

Ice bath 20 mins not too bad doing this now I thinks my body is used to it, and it is warm outside!

Oh boy, I had a laugh on my run today, I saw a baby bunny rabbit how cute, darted in front of me twice, then ran into a lamppost on an old road,  I couldnt help but laugh it was dazed then ran off LOL.  Then It was my turn, I didnt realise but on the top of a wall on the corner was a coving sticking out, and I banged it running past, my arm is sore and grazed LOL I gotta laugh at my clumsy self :-)

 Evening Run........

Ran to my sons Football, did the short route, straight through Formby then down the by-pass to 2nd turn of for hightown, and through to old hightown footy fields.

5.5 miles

did middle 2 miles at marathon pace or thereabouts.

Another ice bath now, and my legs are really recovering so much better with them.

Barry the 20 mins is working  a treat its making such a big difference didnt think it would either, and thought how am I gonna fit that in too but Im managing to do it.

i love the bunny story. lol. sorry about your arm! nice running today and way to get those ice baths in! those things so painful...but they really do help a ton. nice job.

Do you think the 20 minute ice bath helped? i bought a kids pool and filled it up and i going to use that as my ice bath pool. I am not sure how it will work, but i hope i helps with the water bill :). Anyway, nice run today!

Allie, Thanksmy arm will live im always doing stuff like this!

Barry Yes the ice baths working a treat thanks so much for the advice on 20 mins, I really thought no that cant make a real big difference, but it does amazing! Gonna do them for ever now even when im not nearly injured :-) We dont have our water bill like that as we are not on a meter thankfully, we just pay a standard charge based on the size of the house... so i will keep with the normal bath, but I even bought my ice, as the fridge ice machine just doesnt do enough ice really. I bought 2kg bags and using one bag for each bath with cold water, do you think thats enough ice?? its pretty damn cold so Im hoping you say yes :-)

From Barry on Wed, Jun 24, 2009 at 17:21:58 from 67.61.234.251

My answer to your question about being cold enough would be, yes. Just a word of caution, do not go over 20 minutes for your bath. I was told that is not a good thing to do. Why? I do not know, all i remember is that it is not a good thing to do at all. Also, when i take my ice bath i usually listen to the radio or a CD and try not to move because when i move i realize how cold the water is :).

Yeah I play games on my phone lol and try not to move too, and I don't have enough time 2 go over 20 mins thankfully thanks Barry :-)

That'll teach you to laugh at bunnies!

There is a reason for the 20 minute limit (might possibly be 10?) I can't quite remember it at the moment though.

From sam Dean-Howard on Thu, Jun 25, 2009 at 13:32:46 from 90.212.41.49

Hahaha Lol I know I shouldnt have laughed at the baby bunny but it was very funny.

You have to tell me the reason for the limit now Chris ??

From ChrisM on Thu, Jun 25, 2009 at 14:56:10 from 130.159.248.36

Hmmm had a chance to try and remember. One of the reasons for icing say your legs is to stimulate blood flow to the area (as well as reduce inflammation/swelling) now I might be wrong but I think there a) comes a point after which the effects of that decrease, the other point I think is that there comes a point where the cells in your body get so cold they start to get damaged. The other obvious one is you get ice burns.

I'm sure I read an article somewhere about this just can't remember where!

From sam Dean-Howard on Fri, Jun 26, 2009 at 06:24:57 from 90.212.41.49

Chris this sounds familier, to what I have heard too, but for what time length I am not sure, I shall have to do a search although I am sure to find lots of contradictions for both and all LOL
